RESEARCH INTERESTS
I am involved in research that test the following hypothesis:
- Orogenic systems are the product of the mechanical separation of crust
and sediments from the underlying lithosphere. Seismic reflection profiles
define decoupling levels.
- The formation of allochthonous salt sheets in a continental slope environment
is due to a combination of salt diapirism and sediment loading on slopes.
- Inversion of half-grabens in a major orogenic mechanism. My students
and I work on projects in Argentina, Peru, Venezuela, Mexico, the Gulf
of Mexico (both offshore and on shore), Northern Canada, Indonesia, Italy,
Hungary, and Morocco.
All the research projects done in my group are cooperative efforts with
industrial companies. They all involve the integration of geologic surface
and subsurface data with reflection seismic profiles.
