Welcome to the Department of Earth Science at Rice University!

While focusing on three missions including Earth Systems Science, Earth Structure & Dynamics and Energy Resources, our research is extremely diverse and offers students and faculty opportunity to study programs concentrating in:

  • global change
  • paleoceanography
  • low-temperature and crystal surface geochemistry
  • environmental geophysics and geochemistry
  • chemistry, structure, and dynamics of the Earth's interior
as well as the traditional fields of:
  • geology
  • geochemistry
  • geophysics and seismology
