As far as publicly available printing goes, there are three printers, two in the student PC lab on the second floor and one in the new geophysics student workroom on the third floor (306). Here is a breakdown of their type, capability, and how to access them:
| Model | Location | Unix Name | PC Name | Mac Name | Paper Sizes |
| HP ColorLaserJet 4550N | 206B Lab | color206 | color206 | HP LaserJet 4550 | Letter and Legal |
| HP DeskJet 1220C | 206B Lab | ledger | ledger | HP DeskJet 1220C | Up to 13x19" |
| HP ColorLaserJet 4500N | 306 Lab | bioprinter | bioprinter | HP Color Bio Printer 4500 | Letter and Legal |
As far as media goes, letter and legal sized plain paper are provided. All other types must be supplied by yourself (you will be charged less for the use of the printer in that case). Please check with either Alex or Mary before using any other type of media than the provided plain paper.
There are multiple access methods for printing to these printers. Unix lpr-style print queues are maintained on the GeoNet Unix machines, so you can print from Unix in the standard manner. From Macs, you may select which printer you want to use under Appletalk Zone Geophysics: LaserWriter 8. You'll need to have the proper PPD (PostScript Printer Description) to complete the install; you can download these from the HP Website or come see Alex and get the CD-ROM with the drivers. From PCs, you have a couple of options. If you have a JURAI login and have your PC set up to log into the JURAI domain, you can simply do "Add Printer->Network Printer" and browse the JURAI domain for servers with shared printers. The two print servers are named TENCHI and SAKUYA. TENCHI is the main server, and SAKUYA is the backup; you should only use SAKUYA when TENCHI is down for some reason. If you would rather not deal with logging into JURAI, you can see Alex who will give you the printer install CD, which will install the ability to talk directly to the printer on your PC.
Chances are good that you will end up printing to a more local printer maintained by your specific research group.
The department also maintains three plotters: two HP DesignJet 3500CP 54" wide color inkjet models, and an Oyo Geospace black-and-white thermal plotter. Their use is described here.
